Omoyele Sowore’s African Action Congress, AAC, which received last minute backing from the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has defeated the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ahaoda West, in the Rivers State Governorship election.
Sowore, the Founder of Sahara Reporters, contested the 2019 Presidential election under the party, you may recall.
According to the Okochikwu Francis, the Local Government Collation Officer, who announced the Governorship results in the LGA, on Sunday, the AAC polled a total vote of 44,857 votes, compared to the meagre 5,866 votes, polled by the PDP.
wara Biokpomabo, who is the Governorship Candidate of the AAC, in Rivers State, was endorsed by Rotimi Ameachi, the Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the State, following the disqualification of the APC, by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, from fielding Candidates for the State elections.
Although, the National Leadership of the AAC, distanced itself from the endorsement, Political Analysts believe that the endorsement no doubt contributed to the huge numbers the new party has polled in some LGA, in the State, defeating the Candidate of the PDP, incumbent Governor, Nyesom Wike.
Also, the AAC won in the Governorship election in Ikwerre LGA, of the State, having polled 96,663 votes, to defeat the PDP’s 7,554 votes.
The results of the elections are still being collated across the 23 LGAs in the State.
