As the January 19, 2019 Presidential Debate fast approaches, report reaching newsmen, revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari, the Presidential Candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, is having what our source has described as ‘2019 Presidential Debate Fever’.
According to them, the ruling APC is not confident as to how its Candidate is going to perform at the most anticipated Debate, probably in the history of Nigeria’s democracy, since 1999.
They alleged that the President can no longer sleep at night, in Aso Rock, and may not show up for the said Debate, to face the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar, who has consistently boasted on the social media, in recent times, that he is very much prepared, and cannot wait for the Debate, which he believes will be an easy defeat of the APC Candidate, Muhammadu Buhari.
Recall, that there have been speculations from Nigerians, that President Buhari would not show up for the Debate; but our source argued that, that may not be easily possible, or the right step to take by the APC, this time around, unlike during the 2015 Presidential Debate, which their then Candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, avoided, without any backlash, and still went ahead to win the election.
They argued further that the times are different, as the President has failed in the eyes of millions of Nigerians, and they demand that he shows up for the Debate, to explain to the entire country, why he should be given an extra four years to govern the nation, despite his rather poor first term performance.
They are of the view that, failure of the APC Presidential Candidate to show up at the Debate, will do the party and its Candidate more harm than good, as the 2019 general elections fast approach.
“The President and his party are very nervous about this Debate, but they cannot afford to avoid showing up this time around, as that would greatly work against their chances of securing victory at the poll, in February.
“Buhari must show up to the Debate to face Atiku, and prove to the entire country, and the world at large, why they must stick with him, and vote against Atiku and the PDP, in the coming Presidential election.
“Failure to do so, will only spell doom for himself and the APC, in the February 16, 2019 Presidential poll.”
