The political terrain in Nigeria, has in the past week, experienced massive shake-up, especially within the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
In the past few days, a number of audio recordings have been released, showing allegedly but quite clearly, the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, a supposed employee of President Muhammadu Buhari, making rather unpatriotic statements against a government he is a big part of as a Minister.
Recall, that Rotimi Amaechi was also appointed as the Director-General of the President Muhammadu Buhari Campaign Organisation, for the 2019 elections, coming up a few weeks from today.
The contents of the leaked audio recordings include:
“These are not things you publish o. Three years of Buhari o, everybody is dying, crying; Presidents are crying, Farmers are crying, Workers are crying, Politicians are crying, Students are crying. Three years oh. Rate of poverty is very high, people are hungry. Nigeria will never change.”
“The President does not listen to anybody. He does not care. You can write what you want to write. The President does not care. Does he read? He will read, he will laugh. He will say, ‘come, come and see, they are abusing me here’.
“In fact, there was one case of somebody in Onitsha, a Trader in Onitsha, who could not sell his goats during Sallah. And I was with Oga on the plane, and the man was busy abusing Buhari. He said, ‘Amaechi, come, what is my business with Onitsha goat seller?’”
“My salary is N960,000, APC takes N100,000, and how much is remaining? All my kids are overseas, all. My first son is in Dublin, my second son is in Canada, and my third son is in Britain; we will not pay any of their fees.
“Out of that N960k, N300,000 is for accommodation per month, multiply by 12, N4 million per year; you want me to go and live at Gwarinpa, make armed robbers finish you there, or Utako?”
However, the fact that these tapes were released and have not been seriously challenged as not to have been made by the Minister, or any legal action taken, is not the issue here, but that the President does not seem to be bold enough to take any drastic action against the Minister, as many have expected, or not even expected, based on previous similar circumstances.
In a situation like this, the President would have been expected to take very drastic actions, by first firing the Minister from his Ministerial Cabinet, and also suspending him from his party, the APC, and cutting any ties he has with his re-election Campaign, for the 2019 general elections.
There should also not be any kind of investigation whatsoever, as the tapes are very very very clear, and can be very well authenticated anywhere in the world, as it seems.
However, the President does not seem to have the ‘BALLS’ to act.
Many wonder why a former Military General, a Tough Talker, could appear so weak to take drastic actions against his own employees, when and where necessary, and on too many occasions.
This has led many to believe that Rotimi Amaechi may just be one of those mighty untouchable cabals Aisha Buhari, the Wife of the President, talked about several times, running the President Muhammadu Buhari government, for reasons best known to the President, who can never be touched, or fired, no matter what they do.
He appears to have an even bigger immunity, than the 1999 Constitution as amended, provides.
