Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, has been accused by the Leadership of the National Assembly, of technically buying votes from poor and suffering Nigerians, ahead of the 2019 general elections, in a move which has been tagged by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government, as Trader-Moni Scheme, which kicked off just a few months to the 2019 general elections.
During an Open Hearing on Vote-Buying, which was organised by Senate President, Bukola Saraki-led National Assembly, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, accused the President Buhari administration of vote-buying, which he described as the highest form of corruption in the country.
Other Stakeholders and concerned Nigerians at the Open Hearing, specifically called out the Vice President, for vote-buying, in the guise of the Trader-Moni Scheme, which they said is to induce Nigerians to vote for the All Progressives Congress, APC, and President Muhammadu Buhari, in the forthcoming elections.
You may recall, that in recent times, the Vice President has taken it upon himself, to personally reach out to what he described as the poorest of the poor in the society and petty Traders, offering them a loan of a meagre N10,000, and N15,000 after the initial loan has been paid back after 6 months. After giving out the loans, the Vice President proceeds to adding that the Traders must vote for President Muhammadu Buhari in the coming elections.
Reacting to this latest form of vote-buying by the APC and its Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, who was well handpicked to do this notorious job, Salisu Abdulai, an Advocate for a Greater Nigeria and the Editor-in-Chief, Post-Nigeria, totally condemned the move.
His words: “I strongly believe that this was a very well calculated move by the now known desperate APC. A smart one, but not too intelligent, as Nigerians are no longer that gullible; they are gullible, but I believe most are smarter than the APC at this point, and can see between all the lines.
“First, why is this so called Trader-Moni Scheme or Scam, taking effect just a couple of months to the general elections; why does the VP have to personally see through with the Scheme, by going all around the 36 States of the Federation, to hand over these monies by himself; why does the very intelligent and well-spoken VP have to sell his Master to these gullible Nigerians, right after blessing these very poor people with N10,000, by asking them to vote for President Buhari in 2019, and telling them how the President cares so much about them, and that if given a chance again, he would do more for them?
“I mean, is the VP trying to bribe these poor people with N10,000? These are very intelligent questions the recipients of these funds ought to ask themselves at this point.
“I just believe this is a very well calculated means of inducing the electorate with money, just ahead of the elections; giving out money for votes in a well covered-up Scheme.
“Anyway, my conclusion is that the VP is on a mission to buy all the grassroots votes, ahead of the 2019 elections, and I hope the PDP sees right through this, because we all know Nigerians love money, and would do anything for money.”
