Jarrett Hurd knocked out Jason Welborn to defend his light middleweight world titles in Los Angeles after the Brit’s spirited display.
Welborn received the surprise call to feature on the undercard of Deontay Wilder vs Tyson Fury fresh from winning the British middleweight title.
Despite dropping down in weight, Hurd towered over him. Though Welborn tucked up from the first bell and let his hands go.
The American was happy to sit against the ropes and soak up punishment and counter, even absorbing a late barrage of shots at the end of the third round as the Brit made a surprisingly bright start to the contest.
As Welborn came on strong in the fourth, Hurd let his hands go, some of which appeared to land low.
A sickening body shot dropped Welborn to the canvas and he could not lift himself up before the count to end the contest and the hope of a stunning upset.
